I’ve been exploring Jerusalem, the Sea of Galilee, the Mount of Beatitudes, the Jordan River and other parts of Israel for a week. Have you been here?
Even if you haven’t visited Israel, you’ve probably traveled. And if you’ve traveled, you’ve lost your way! We lost our way yesterday, traveling from Tiberias to Haifa. We also lost our way the day before when we left Tzfat. One little turn can change everything.
We make plans…and God chuckles
My favorite “losing our way” story was a couple days ago. We planned to walk from the Mount of Beatitudes down to Capernaum, on the Sea of Galilee. We wanted to take the bus, but it wouldn’t be leaving for an hour. We found a car rental place and thought we might as well ask about the cost…and 20 minutes later we were zooming along the coast of the Sea of Galilee in our own car!
The freedom of having our own car was bliss — especially after a week of airplanes, boats, taxis, buses and trains. And, it was a blessing not to have to walk in the blistering heat of the desert (Jesus and His disciples must have sweated a lot).
I knew God was looking after us. We thought we lost our way, but He had us the whole time.
When you lose your way
Know that your plans aren’t unfolding your way for a reason. You may not know why you’re going through this, or how long it’ll take, or what good could possibly come from this situation…but yours isn’t to know. Yours is to accept and trust.
Be humble, for you know less than you think. Be grateful, for you’ve been spared more than you realize. And be joyful for the abundance you have!
Have you lost your way in the past? Of course you have. We all have! How did it turn out for you?
Shalom, my friend.
