Bridging the Gap Between You and God – Blossom Tip 55

Do you believe in God with your head, but not your heart? You know He exists but you don’t have a strong connection or personal relationship with Jesus. You believe, but you don’t enjoy a deep sense of joy, faith, and peace.

Maybe your faith is lukewarm. Maybe you’re unfulfilled and unhappy, unprepared and unequipped to handle painful problems. Maybe you even feel jealous of other people’s faith, joy, and peace. You want their hope, security and love…but you don’t know how to get it.

How do you find more peace, joy, and light in your life? How do you move your faith from your head to your heart?

See Jane Run

The first time Jane smoked pot was at a party. Then a friend said she could hear colors if she tried LSD. A few weeks later she discovered cocaine—an instant hit! Then heroin, and she was hooked. She stole her grandma’s engagement ring, emptied her brother’s bank account. They kicked her out. She didn’t care. Her friends would take care of her.

After seven years of living on the street, overdosing on crack, stealing from friends and strangers, getting beat up, spending nights in jail and days in dumpsters, Jane wanted to go home. She wanted her life back. She wanted her mom. She sent a message, praying for a miracle.

“I’ll take the train past the house tomorrow,” she wrote. “If you want to talk, leave a white towel on the clothesline.”

Long before the train reached the house, Jane saw white. The backyard was covered in white towels, sheets, blankets, clothes, flags—an ocean of whiteness. Jane saw her mom standing in the middle of all that white, eagerly waving at every train that passed.

Jane’s mom waited night and day for her…just like Jesus is waiting for you. All you have to do is Jane’s mom waited night and day for her…just like Jesus is waiting for you. All you have to do is reach out.

Bridging the gap between you and God

Go for a walk without your phone, dog, or responsibilities. Talk to God about the secrets hidden in your heart. Yes, He already knows everything — but He wants you to talk to Him. He is waiting for you. Our Father is loving and forgiving.

How to bridge the gap between you and God she blossoms tipsThe Lord God is also just, holy, and sacred. He is not to be taken lightly. He is to be feared, approached with humility, gratitude, and reverence. You may find Jesus or the Holy Spirit easier than the Lord God to approach if you feel overwhelmed with guilt, sin, or shame.

Jesus is safe, warm, and eager. Like Jane’s mom, Jesus is waving you home.

Take a step closer to Jesus, and He will meet you where you are.

Remind yourself of your relationship with Him! My Ruach tattoo — which you can see in My Broken Arm and New Tattoo — is how I remember that the Holy Spirit is always flowing in and through me.

Find something white that you see often: a bracelet, purse, handkerchief. Carry it with you as a visual reminder of the freedom, forgiveness, and peace you have in Jesus. He washes you daily, white as snow.

Jesus surrendered His life so you could be free. Don’t waste His sacrifice. Go home.

With His love,

Laurie

P.S. Good news! This is the first morning in two weeks that I haven’t taken painkillers because of my broken arm and surgery. It’s been rough, but hallelujah for healing! If you’re broken – or curious about how I broke my arm – read 4 Keys to Healing Your Brokenness – Blossom Tip 54.

A lot has happened recently that made me cry while I was praying. I prayed to God that I wanted things to be different this time, for the better. It was a different prayer from the usual. For things have not been in my favor in the past; I was treated like I was the most hated person in the world, like I have an incurable disease, or did an unforgivable sin. I just kept quiet and continue to pray while I let them treat me like that. While I can’t change anything on my own, I can only let tears roll down my cheeks when I pray. I remember my mom telling me when I was younger, every tear that comes out of my eyes will be a number of difficulty and hardship on the part of the ones who have hurt me. I find peace and comfort when I pray to God.

    Hi Laurie,

I am so touched with what you wrote. It’s like you posted this topic just for me. It’s as if we are talking face to face that I am teary-eyed. I didn’t do drugs or anything alike. It’s just that, I haven’t reviewed my relationship with God and it feels like I haven’t talked to him in a while even though things are a bit rough and I am having a hard time, I just don’t want to reach out to him yet and I now I feel bad about it. Thanks for sharing this article.

    Cheers,
    Andrea

Thank you, Andrea – I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to respond to you! You wrote your comment on my anniversary, when my husband and I were in Portugal….I’ve been having a hard time catching up.

When you wrote your comment, you were thinking about reaching out to God. You said you felt bad about not wanting to connect with Him, and you haven’t thought about your relationship with Him for awhile. How are you doing these days? Have you inched closer to bridging the gap between you and God?

He is always waiting for you, always watching with love and compassion. Don’t let your life slip away without knowing His joy, peace, and love for you! He wants to fill your life with power, strength, joy and freedom. He has so much life to give…and He’s waiting to pour into your life. Amazing, He is. So amazing.
