Recognizing the most common signs of infertility will help you decide what to do if you can’t get pregnant. Infertility signs in men and women are different – which means you and your partner need to pay attention to your bodies.
The Clearblue Fertility Monitor is for couples who are trying to get pregnant and want to track ovulation. It has a touch screen monitor that is easy to use, stores information that you can share with your doctor. It can also help you detect the most common signs of infertility by showing you what your fertile days are. If you have no fertile days, then you may be dealing with female infertility.
One of the worst parts of infertility – or the fear of being infertile – is friends and family members getting pregnant accidentally! “Today, my child-hating friend who vowed never to have kids no matter what, announced that she’s pregnant,” says Charity. “I’ve had three IVF (in vitro fertilization) cycles, spent $90,000 in fertility treatments, and still can’t conceive a baby. WTF?”
Life isn’t fair – there’s no doubt about it. That’s why it helps to have faith in God, to know He loves you and wants you to have the best possible life. My husband and I can’t have children, and it was the most disappointing discovery of my life. Trusting God when you can’t get pregnant is not easy – especially if you’ve been trying to conceive for months or even years.
The key is to balance action (such as learning about the signs of infertility in men and women) with faith (trusting God that you will get pregnant when the time is right – don’t give up!).
Signs of Infertility in Women
As you’re reading through these infertility signs, remember that each woman’s body is different. God created your body the way it is for a reason – and you need to love your body! Accept it for what it is and what it will do for you. Pray a blessing over your body every morning, and thank God for who you are.
Changes in your menstrual cycle and ovulation may be a symptom of infertility – or a disease related to infertility. The first four signs of infertility in women on this list are related to menstruation, and the next seven signs are related to hormonal changes. Your hormones have a direct effect on your fertility.
Signs of female fertility problems:
- Abnormal periods. Menstrual bleeding is heavier or lighter than usual

- Changes in libido (sex drive) and desire
- Dark hair growth on your lips, chest, and chin

Many other things can lead to infertility in women, and their symptoms vary. To learn more about female infertility, read Signs of Fertility Problems in Women. And, make an appointment to see your doctor if you think you may be infertile.
Problems with your periods or menstrual cycle is a sign of ovulation problems – and if you aren’t ovulating, you won’t get pregnant. Menstrual problems are the most obvious sign of infertility in women – but they don’t necessarily mean you’re infertile. Most women have some type of problem with their period: light flow, heavy flow, clotting, irregularity caused by stress or weight fluctuations, hormonal changes, etc.
The only way to determine if your “signs of infertility” are actually signs of infertility is to consult a doctor in person. Don’t rely on the internet to give you a diagnosis of infertility! Too many couples ask me for help getting pregnant or seek medical advice.
If you’re worried that you might be an infertile woman, don’t lose your hope. Be encouraged, and know that many women get pregnant even after being diagnosed with infertility. Know that there is a reason for what you’re going through. I trust God and I rely on His power, peace, and joy every day. I know there is a reason why we struggled with infertility – and perhaps the reason is so I could write about fertility and encourage couples like you to keep the faith.
Signs of Infertility in Men
May you accept your body – even if you are an infertile man. We struggled with male factor infertility in our marriage, and it strengthened our marriage and our faith in God. May you feel God’s blessing on you even if you can’t conceive children naturally. May you walk in faith, and trust that He knows what He is doing. Don’t give up on your God, for He is loving and compassionate.
The symptoms that you may be infertile depend on what is causing the infertility.
