How to Increase Your Chances of Getting Pregnant

Conceiving a baby requires a healthy blend of faith and planning. Here’s how to increase your chances of getting pregnant scientifically, plus spiritual inspiration from the Parable of the Jewish Mother.

how ovulation predictor kits increase chances of getting pregnantThe Clearblue Fertility Monitor is the best way to predict your follicular and luteal phases – which I describe below. Knowing when your ovulation cycle begins and ends is how you’ll increase your chances of pregnancy. At the beginning of your cycle is when the egg is released – and that’s when you want to aim sperm in that direction! It’s much easier to get pregnant fast if you know when the egg is ready and waiting.

Knowing how to increase your chances of conceiving a baby is helpful because it’ll show you that there is both an art and a science to getting pregnant. The “art” part is faith, which is where my Parable of the Jewish Mother comes in. The science part is much more detailed and boring, but it will show you how to increase your chances of getting pregnant.

First, the faith. Then, the science…

The Parable of the Jewish Mother

“A fight is going on inside me,” said a Jewish mother to her eldest daughter. “It’s a terrible fight between two wolves. One wolf is evil – she is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt, and ego.”

The daughter nodded. She knew the wolf her mother was talking about, because the same wolf was alive in her.

“The other wolf inside me is good,” said the Jewish mother. “That wolf is patience, joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.”

“Yes,” said the daughter. “That wolf is inside me, too.”

“Both wolves are fighting inside me to win,” said her mom. “This same fight is going on in you – and in every other person, too.”

The daughter thought for a minute. “Which wolf will win?” she asked.

“The one I feed,” said the Jewish mother.

How to Increase Your Chances of Getting Pregnant

When you’re trying to get pregnant, you may struggle with fear, doubt, insecurity, and anxiety. Those are all parts of the bad wolf inside you. Listen to the Jewish mother in the parable, and starve that wolf!

Feed the wolf of hope, faith, optimism, positivity, and confidence. Stay connected to the things that bring you joy and peace! That’s how you feed the good wolf. And, make sure you keep learning the “scientific” part of getting pregnant – such as How to Increase Fertility Naturally.

Understand your menstrual and ovulation cycle

One of the most important ways to increase your chances of getting pregnant is to get a good understanding of your cycle. This is simply what happens to your body throughout the month, and helps you predict when you’re about to ovulate.

Your cycle can range from 24-35 days – it’s a myth that a woman’s cycle is 28 days long. The cycle is split into two main phases: 1) the follicular phase and the luteal phase. Here’s some basic information on these two phases of a woman’s cycle. It’s a bit scientific and dry, but it’s good for you to know because it can help you increase your chances of getting pregnant.

The Follicular Phase

The first phase, known as the follicular phase, starts on the first day of your period and ends when you ovulate. During this phase of your cycle, your reproductive hormones getting ready to release an egg (ovum). You are actually maturing 15-20 eggs, which are stored in your ovaries.

This phase is called “follicular” because growth or maturation of the egg is taking place inside the follicle, a small sac where the egg matures. When the hormones have sufficiently matured the eggs, the pituitary gland releases the luteinizing hormone (LH surge). This surge releases the egg from the most mature follicle, this is known as ovulation. On average, ovulation occurs around day 14 of the cycle.

If your menstrual cycle is irregular, you’ll have a tough time knowing when the egg is released. Read How to Get Regular Periods in Natural Ways for help with irregular cycles.

The Luteal Phase

The second phase of your cycle is called the luteal phase, which begins when you ovulate and ends on the first day of your next period. This phase happens on days 14 through 28, roughly speaking. This is the time between when the egg is released (ovulation) and the first day of menstruation.

This phase is called the “luteal phase” because the ovarian follicle collapses after the egg leaves the ovary and becomes the “corpus luteum”, or luteal body. Your body starts producing the hormone progesterone, which warms your body in preparation for pregnancy. It is this progesterone-induced warming trend that signals that ovulation has occurred.

This thermal-shift is measurable using a basal thermometer when charting, and is what allows you to know when your window of fertility has closed. After a few months of fertility charting, a pattern will emerge and you will know when this shift occurs. This will allow you to know when your optimal fertility days are (and when you should have sex). And voila! This is how you increase your chances of getting pregnant.

Know your “fertile window”

The short window of time when a woman is fertile is the few days before and during ovulation. While different for every woman, this time frame lasts on average about 7 days, 6 days before the day of ovulation, and the day of ovulation. The fertile window occurs roughly 14 days after the first day of your period.

Every woman’s cycle length is different. The exact day of ovulation is also different for each woman. But, knowing when your fertile window is can help you conceive. Within the 7-day window of optimal fertility, there are certain “peak fertility” days (these are the few days right before ovulation). Knowing what days these are is how to increase your chances of getting pregnant.

Regulate your periods

Do you have regular periods? The definition of “irregular menstruation” is when your periods don’t arrive within a couple of days from month to month (a cycle variation of more than a few days in length from every month). Many women don’t know that fixing cycle irregularities is one of the best ways to increase the chances of pregnancy.

About 10% of all women who are fertile have irregular cycles. It is very difficult to plan for pregnancy and know when you are ovulating if your cycles are not predictable.

Hope and faith can increase your chances of getting pregnant

Back to the Parable of the Jewish mother: don’t get discouraged – don’t feed the wolf of despair and dejection if you haven’t gotten pregnant as fast as you hoped! Feed your hopeful, faithful wolf. Learn how to act as if getting pregnant depends solely on you, and pray as if getting pregnant depends solely on God. A baby is a miracle, a special blessing, a gift from God. These tips on how to increase your chances of getting pregnant are important – but there are so many unknowns and mysteries to conceiving a baby. Trust God, feed your spirituality, and stay connected to Jesus.

I welcome your thoughts on how to increase your chances of getting pregnant – or The Parable of the Jewish Mother (it is ironic that I used a parable of the “Jewish mother” when I’m Christian, isn’t it?!). I can’t offer health advice or counseling, but it may help you to share your experience of conceiving a baby.

By the way – if your cycles are regular, you may want to learn which foods increase your chances of getting pregnant.

My prayer for all women want to know how to increase their chances of pregnancy is for faith, hope, and confidence that God will bless you with a family.
