4 Well-Known Ways to Increase Male Fertility and Keep Sperm Healthy

Male fertility plays a huge role in getting pregnant – and you have more control than you realize about how to keep your sperm healthy. These tips on how to increase male fertility will help you keep your sperm healthy – because if you don’t have healthy swimmers, you won’t get pregnant.

4 Ways to Increase Male Fertility Levels and Keep Sperm Healthy

“There are many exceptional options to naturally increase sperm count, quality and motility,” says acupuncturist and herbalist Kristen Burris in response to Causes of Infertility for Men and Women Who Can’t Get Pregnant. “My husband and I both have had considerable success treating male infertility, including poor sperm count, quality and motility. Many of our patients are considered ‘infertile’ by their reproductive endocrinologist when they first see us. After 3-6 months of treatment their counts, quality and motility are all in the fertile range.”

Low sperm count is one of the main causes of fertility issues in couples experiencing difficulty in conceiving. Simply put, the fewer sperm a man produces, the lower the likelihood is that one of them will be able to successfully fertilize the egg. It’s important to remember that not getting pregnant isn’t always because of a “female problem.” Below, you’ll find natural ways to increase male fertility levels and improve your chances of getting pregnant…

Acupuncture and herbal supplements can help increase male infertility – but it depends on what type of sperm “problems” you’re having. If you want to create healthier sperm and conceive a baby, your best bet is to see a urologist in person, and get your stuff checked out.

In the meantime, here are four general ways to make your sperm healthy and happy…

4 Ways to Increase Male Fertility and Sperm Health

Remember that stress affects your fertility levels – so try not to get too worried about how healthy your sperm is.

1. Keep your sperm cool

Sperm isn’t supposed to be too warm, and not hot at all. A man’s sperm doesn’t do well at temperatures over 96 degrees, which is why the testes hang below the rest of the body (to stay cooler). So, wear boxer shorts to keep your temperature cool, and don’t wear briefs, tight fitting underwear or jeans. Avoid hot tubs, as well as rowing/ski machines, treadmills or jogging unless your testes can hang free.

2. Avoid environmental toxins

Some natural health experts say the semen of the average man today has half the sperm than men did 50 years ago. And, their sperm isn’t as healthy as it was before. Increased exposure to environmental toxins may be the cause, which means you should avoid void plastic containers for food storage, plastic bottles, wraps and utensils.

Eat organic food as much as possible to avoid pesticides and herbicides, and eat lots of fruits and veggies to increase your antioxidant levels. Fruit and veggies high in antioxidants include green leafy vegetables, kale, carrots, citrus, broccoli, cauliflower and yams.

3. Live a healthy lifestyle

According to the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, regular exercise (five times a week for at least 45 minutes) and a healthy diet can help you get pregnant faster. You need to keep your body weight at normal levels, relieve stress and anxiety, and stay as healthy as possible. To increase male fertility and improve sperm count, live a clean and healthy lifestyle. Also, avoid alcohol, pot, cigarettes and chewing tobacco.

4. Consider nutritional supplements for fertility, such as FertilAid

Vitamin C and zinc are the most important supplemental nutrients to enhance fertility. Vitamin C (2,000 to 6,000 milligrams daily) helps prevent sperm from clumping or sticking together, thus increasing male fertility and improving sperm count. Zinc supplements have been shown to increase testosterone, sperm count and sperm motility. High zinc sources include oysters, organ meats, lean beef, turkey, lamb, herring, wheat germ, legumes and nuts.

How to Increase Male Fertility and Keep Sperm Healthy

How do you know if your sperm is healthy? A Fertility SpermCheck Test can give you some clues. It can be conducted in the privacy of your own home, providing you with helpful information regarding your fertile status – without the embarrassment or inconvenience that often accompanies a clinical semen analysis.

If you determine that sperm count is an issue for you, then you’re one step closer to getting pregnant! The sooner an issue is identified, the sooner appropriate fertility treatment can be started.

Possible treatments include over the counter-male fertility supplements, prescription drugs, or varicocele surgery. Supplements such as FertilAid for Men contain the right blend of vitamins and minerals for fertility.

  2. Hello Orville,

I think your urologist knows what he’s talking about! I’m reading Pathways to Pregnancy by Mary Wong, and she talks about abnormal or misshapen sperm.

Here’s an article that’ll give you hope and inspiration:

  3. My wife and I have been trying to get pregnant for three years. I finally took a sperm health test, and found out that not only do I have a low sperm count I also have abnormal sperm morphology. The urologist told me to do another semen analysis in two months, and see if anything has changed. He said that misshapen sperm can be fixed. Do you have any suggestions on how to make abnormal sperm normal? Can I get my wife pregnant if I have abnormal sperm? The urologist said it’s possible but I’m curious what you think.
