It’s taking you a long time to get pregnant because you’re focusing on sex and ovulation. You need to start learning how to increase low sperm count – in addition to timing intercourse so it happens during her fertile window.

How to Increase Low Sperm Count
Here, I share a few tips on how to increase low sperm count in simple ways. Remember, though, that these tips should be used in addition to learning when ovulation happens for women so you have intercourse at the right time! There’s no point in learning how to increase low sperm count if your timing is off.
The first tip for increasing low sperm count may surprise you…
Brush and floss your teeth regularly
In Low Sperm Count? How to Make Healthy Sperm, I describe how brushing your teeth is related to low sperm count.
Basically, untreated dental problems and poor dental hygiene may contribute to overall poor health. One research study found that men who received regular dental treatments and who took care of their teeth had improved sperm health, compared to men who didn’t take care of their teeth. Since bacteriospermia (bacteria in semen) has been linked to male infertility, it’s important to floss and brush your teeth at least twice a day. I bet you didn’t know that flossing and brushing is a way to increase low sperm count!
Decrease your pesticide intake
You may be unknowingly eating too many pesticides. Research shows that men who ate fruits and vegetables with higher levels of pesticide residues – such as strawberries, spinach, and peppers – had lower sperm count and a lower percentage of normal sperm than men who ate fruit and veggies with lower residue levels.
Fruit or vegetables that are low in pesticide residues include peas, beans, grapefruit and onions. High pesticide residues are found in peppers, spinach, strawberries, apples and pears. The group of men with the highest intake of pesticide-heavy fruit and vegetables (and low sperm count) had an average total sperm count of 86 million sperm per ejaculate. Men who ate less pesticides had an average of 171 million sperm per ejaculate, which is a 49% reduction.
As you know from reading 5 Foods to Increase Sperm Count, Production, and Motility, you don’t want to stop eating fruit and veggies! Rather, make sure you wash your food well, consume organically-grown produce, or avoid produce known to have large amounts of residues, may be the way to go.”
Increase low sperm count by talking to a fertility doctor
So many men ask “How do I increase low sperm count?” on my article about foods and male fertility. I can’t answer that question, partly because I’m not a fertility doctor.
But the more important reason I can’t tell you how to increase low sperm count is because I don’t know the reason your sperm count is low! My husband has azoospermia (which means he doesn’t produce any sperm at all). If you’re like him and have azoospermia because of your genetics, then you can eat all the pumpkin seeds, take all the sperm supplements, and do all the acupuncture in the world and you still won’t create sperm. That’s why you can’t get individual-specific health advice on the internet: the person giving the advice has no idea what your condition is.
Avoid soy – and keep your waistline trim
Research from the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston found that men who eat an average of half a serving of soy food a day have lower concentrations of sperm than men who do not eat soy foods. The association between low sperm count and soy food was particularly obvious in men who were overweight or obese.
Isoflavones such as daidzein, genistein and glycitein are plant-derived compounds with oestrogenic (estrogen-like) effects. They’re mainly found in soy beans and soy-derived products. Animal studies have linked the high consumption of isoflavones with infertility in animals, and this was the first study to link low sperm count with soy. How to increase low sperm count? Easy. Stop eating soy – and lose a few pounds!
The association between soy food intake and sperm concentrations were stronger in men who were overweight or obese. Researchers also found the relationship between soy foods and sperm concentration was strongest in men with the higher sperm concentrations. The implication is that men who have normal or high sperm counts may be more susceptible to soy foods than men with low sperm counts – but the researchers said this remains to be evaluated.
Get a semen analysis to assess your sperm count
As I said at the beginning, if you want to get pregnant then you need to focus on male as well as female fertility. This might include taking the sperm check at-home test and popping a few male fertility supplements. If you’re on prescription medication for other health issues, don’t take any supplements – natural or not – until you check with your doctor first.
