You don’t have to be a young bride and groom on your honeymoon to conceive a honeymoon baby! You can get pregnant on vacation no matter how old you are or how long you’ve been married 🙂 These ten tips will boost the chances you’ll get pregnant on your next vacation – even if you’re not going to a romantic island getaway with palm trees and warm breezes.
Of course, island getaways and sandy beaches set the stage for a honeymoon baby because they’re incredibly romantic. It could be the beautiful sunsets, tropical breezes, coconut sunblock and pineapple drinks with umbrellas. Not to mention the delicious meals, sparkling swimming pool, and the evening entertainment! Resort vacations and all-inclusive beach hotels can make a couple feel closer and more intimate than, say, a hiking trip in the Himalayas or a safari in Kenya. So my first tip on how to get pregnant on vacation is to go somewhere that makes you feel romantic and intimate, not stressed and sweaty.
When I was on vacation in Hawaii recently, I realized it would be the perfect time and place to get pregnant. A honeymoon baby would make it a holiday to remember – especially for a couple like us, who tried to conceive for years. Unfortunately, our infertility issues weren’t fixed by a beach vacation…but yours might be.
If you’ve been hoping and trying for a baby for a long time, a change of scenery might be just what you need. A vacation can increase the romance and decrease the stress of trying to get pregnant. Some women get pregnant on vacation simply because they’re relaxed, out of the daily routine, and not stressed about work or home. Going on vacation may be especially helpful for couples who are dealing with unexplained infertility or haven’t been able to conceive after months (or years) of trying.
Could this be where your honeymoon baby in conceived? You never know until you try…
10 Ways to Boost Your Chances of Getting Pregnant on Vacation
Some of these tips include factual information about infertility for couples. Infertility is unpleasant and even painful to talk about, but this information can bring you closer together. If you want to get pregnant on vacation, you and your husband need to be emotionally, physically and spiritually intimate. These tips will help.
“When you can’t get pregnant, you swim in a mix of emotions,” write Julie Vargo and Maureen Regan in A Few Good Eggs: Two Chicks Dish on Overcoming the Insanity of Infertility. “You feel insecure (how the hell did this happen to me?), inferior (if I can’t have a baby, I must not be enough of a woman), scared (how am I going to get out of this mess?), mad (how the hell did this happen to me?), and frustrated (what does that mean?).”
Hopefully you’ll be doing more swimming in the pool and ocean than in a mix of emotions about getting pregnant! But it’s good to prepare for anything.
1. Book a condo with a full kitchen
This may not seem like a romantic idea, but believe me, you’ll want to eat dinner or breakfast in your room after your most intimate moments! Many of the condos in Maui– such as the Aston Maui Kaanapali Villas (where I stayed) have full kitchens. Some rooms are right on the beach. If you stock the fridge and pantry when you first arrive, you’ll be set for breakfast or dinner in bed. If you’re booking a vacation package on a tropical island, make sure you get at least a kitchenette.

2. Splurge on a room or condo with an ocean view
It’s more expensive, but it may be worth spending extra money on a room with a view of the beach or ocean. Imagine sitting on your balcony, relaxing together as you watch the sun set. Picture yourself waking up to hot coffee and fresh pineapple, listening to the waves hit the golden sandy shores. When I was trying to get pregnant, several women told me that the relaxation and beauty of a vacation like this might help.
Do you and your husband talk about infertility fears or why you’re not pregnant yet? If you haven’t gone for fertility testing because your husband is reluctant, know that it’s common for women to be more proactive than men. That is, women who are trying to get pregnant often feel more comfortable seeking help for health and infertility issues than men. Men are commonly more reluctant to seek help conceiving a baby or going for medical tests. Your vacation might be a good time to talk about how to get pregnant with a fertility doctor’s help.
3. Consider an all-inclusive resort vacation
If you stay at an all-inclusive beach resort you won’t have to worry about finding restaurants or cooking in your hotel room. An all-inclusive resort might even be more romantic than staying at a condo with a full kitchen, depending on your tastes and needs. Do you and your husband enjoy cooking together, or making multiple trips to the buffet tables? All-inclusives can be luxurious and relaxing – which is exactly what you need to make a honeymoon baby.
4. Bring a goody bag for romance.
When my husband and I travel together, he always packs a goody bag of candles, matches, massage oil, and other things we enjoy on our romantic nights together. A goody bag is a great way to get intimate, especially for couples who want to have a baby.
When my husband and I first started trying to conceive, I knew nothing about fertile windows, ovulation cycles, or sperm health. I didn’t even bother researching tips on how to get pregnant, much less how to conceive a honeymoon baby while on vacation! I assumed it’d be easy to get pregnant, but I was wrong. I had to learn about fertile windows, healthy eggs, fallopian tubes, ectopic pregnancies, miscarriages, and problems that decrease the chances of pregnancy.
In 10 Things That Help You Get Pregnant, I share the most important and most basic tips for women planning to get pregnant. You might think you know how to conceive – and you might even be praying to get pregnant on your holiday trip – but I can almost guarantee you’ll find things in that article that’ll surprise you.
5. Give a gift or make a romantic gesture every morning
If you really want to make it a romantic vacation, surprise your husband with a new present every day. If you’re going on vacation to celebrate an anniversary or birthday, make that the theme of your trip. Your vacation may also be a good time to start preparing yourself to take the next step in getting pregnant: a sperm health test. Men are notoriously unwilling to have their fertility tested – and for good reason!
This tip won’t put you and your husband in a baby-making mood on vacation, but it’s important to know why men aren’t as open to fertility tests. First, men face the barrier of giving a sperm health or semen specimen to the lab. Men often don’t want to give the specimen at the clinic because it’s embarrassing. The collection room is usually a bathroom with some adult magazines; it’s not fun for men to give a sperm health sample when the walls aren’t soundproof and he can hear people walking or talking nearby.
6. Participate in physical activities together: yoga, stretching, beach volleyball, sailing
This may not seem like a romantic way to get pregnant on your holiday, but exercising together connect you to your new spouse in a whole new way. I love doing fitness DVDs and working out with my husband because it’s fun, motivating, and sexy to sweat and get fit as a couple. There are many ways to exercise if you’re on a tropical holiday such as running on the beach, taking surfing lessons, snorkeling, or scuba diving.
7. Listen to the whales if you’re vacationing in Hawaii
If you go to Maui in January or February, you’ll discover that you can hear the whales when your head is under water! It’s amazing – and such a romantic thing to experience with your partner. It’s also an inexpensive way to experience the wonder of whales.
Listen to your husband. Listen to your heart and spirit. Know that it takes most couples a year on average to get pregnant. So, no matter how much you research the different tips for honeymoon babies and getting pregnant on vacation, you must surrender to the mysteries of nature. Or God, depending on your perspective! Hold on to your faith, and nurture a patient, accepting spirit while preparing for pregnancy. Most couples don’t get pregnant the first month they try (and honeymoon babies are rarer than we think).
8. Stay as healthy as possible – and don’t get a sunburn
Even just a few hours on a tropical beach can burn your skin, which will not help you get pregnant on your vacation. Be generous with the sunblock for both you and your husband. Stay out of the sun, especially if you’re pale or fair-skinned. Drink lots of water, don’t drink too much alcohol, and get lots of sleep on your holiday. The healthier you are, the greater your chances of getting pregnant on your vacation.
Speaking of health…another reason men are reluctant to get their sperm health tested is the fear of the results. Many men identify their masculinity with their sexual performance and the quality of their sperm. Even the possibility of getting a negative result or diagnosis in the form of a poor semen analysis can be paralyzing to men. The embarrassment, the fear of infertility, the potential attack on his identity as a man, and even religious reasons can be very difficult issues for men to face.
9. Go to a luau, and take hula dancing lessons together
The Drums of the Pacific at the Hyatt in Kaanapali offers a wonderful luau, and they invite the audience to try hula dancing on stage. It’s fun and of course you feel goofy dancing on stage, but it’s one of those things you’ll never forget you did together. Participating in fun activities like this can help you forget how much you want to get pregnant on this vacation with a sweet honeymoon baby.
10. Reminisce about your happiest experiences together
My husband and I didn’t do this on our honeymoon in St Maarten, but I wish we had. It would’ve been so romantic and practical. Talking about your positive experiences and happy memories is a great way to spark your love life. You might even take a prepared list of things you love about your husband, photos of great times, or small items you both love.
