Sunflower seeds for vitamin E (a must for any fertility diet)

Not only are these crunchy seeds a delicious, vitamin rich snack, but they’re also chalk full of vitamin E. Vitamin E is highly recommended for both men and women who are trying to conceive because it is a strong antioxidant that can keep your body free from cell defects and poor health. In addition, studies show that men who have increased levels of vitamin E in their diet, have higher fertilization rates and better sperm motility than men who don’t have high levels of vitamin E.

    The best fertility diet is a balanced food pyramid. The more fruit and vegetables you eat, the healthier you’ll be overall. And the healthier you are, the more fertile you are. These are good foods for fertility, but it’s important to be balanced in what you eat. I’m a nutritionist, and I know that few people eat balanced diets.

    I think it depends on the type of food. For instance, tomatoes are healthier when they’re cooked (lycopene).

    And here’s what I found on the TrustedMD blog:

    There is no question that enzyme-rich, raw food packs a nutritional punch that cooked food cannot match…some vegetables are actually more nourishing if lightly cooked. The heat will break down the nutrient inhibitors in them, making the nutrients more available to the gut for absorption.

    Good veggies to cook are cruciferous veggies like broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage. They contain goitrogens (which inhibit thyroid hormone) and are neutralized with light cooking, as well as some leafy greens, like spinach, kale, chard and collard greens which contain oxalic acid which reduce the absorption of calcium and can irritate the intestines. So steaming these veggies lightly without overcooking is the way to go.

  6. Hi Sheena thank you for this fertility diet information! Do you think cooked foods make a difference in nutrients? Like does spinach have different affects on fertility if its cooked or raw? Same with garlic and onions. My partner eats raw onions and says its healthier than cooked ones. What do you think? Thanks, Shelly
