SmartPhone Options for New Phone Owners

My husband asked, “Which SmartPhone should I buy?” so I researched the options of the top Smart Phones on the market: Apple iPhone 4, BlackBerry, Google’s Android smartphone, Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7, Nokia’s smartphones, and Samsung’s Android Phone. There is a dizzying array of special features and options that each smart phone offers, which can be overwhelming!

“After a home and a car, a new smartphone may be the most important purchase you make,” writes Vancouver Sun newspaper reporter Steve Makris. “Why? Buying a smartphone that doesn’t match your professional or personal needs could be an expensive mistake. A three-year contract can cost more than $2,000. And, not having the right features available could cause you no end of grief while the contract is in force.”

The Samsung Fascinate Android Phone (Verizon Wireless) is the bestselling smart phone on — but it may not suit your needs. It depends on what your personal and professional needs are, my friend.

Here are the options and special features of the top smart phones on the market today, to help you decide which smart phone you should buy…

This is just a quick summary of the smart phone options. For more details, visit or the company that makes or sells the smart phone.

Samsung Fascinate Android Phone – comes with its own operating system (Verizon wireless phone service). This smart phone offers fast download speeds, video on demand, visual voice mail, mobile hotspot capability, and a Swype input system. The Samsung includes up to seven hours of talk time, a camera (of course), Google mobile services, and an open Android platform. It’s also a physically beautiful phone; so if you’re into appearance and style, this may be the smart phone you should buy.

Apple’s iPhone 4 is integrated with Apple’s iMac, iPad, iPod, and iTunes. So if you’re a Mac user — or you love your Apple iPod Touch –then maybe this the best smart phone is the one for you. And if you love applications or apps, then you’ll love Apple’s iPhone; it’s got thousands and thousands of apps (both for free and for purchase). This is one of those phones that can help you achieve your professional and personal goals — and the iPhone users I know, love their phones. The iPhone works with Windows, so you don’t need to own a Macintosh to enjoy this smart phone.

Research in Motion’s BlackBerry seems to be a top smart phone for career-minded businesspeople — it has solid privacy encryption for sensitive (Top Secret!) business correspondence. The BlackBerry has its own Messenger system, and easily handles email, calendars, mulitasking, and contacts. The Blackberry Torch Smartphone. comes with a service plan from AT & T, while the BlackBerry Bold 9000 comes with a Verizon service plan. The BlackBerry browswer has improved, but its media fetures aren’t as impressive as other top smart phones (the iPhone or the Samsung Android, for instance).

Google’s Android SmartPhone may sell more smart phones than any other in the upcoming months, according to some cell phone technology specialists. “Some 200,000 units a day are being activated worldwide,” writes writes Vancouver Sun reporter Steve Makris. “The Android operating system is cheap for cellphone makers, and allows unprecedented flexibility to design unique functions for each model, such as built-in social networking integration.” The Android SmartPhone offers a great connection to Microsoft media and office applications, making this a good cell phone option for non-Mac users.

Nokia Nuron 5230 Phone, Frost White (T-Mobile) is Amazon’s bestselling Nokia smart phone, and it’s currently advertising a “talk free” family plan offer. The older Nokia models have been updated, and look and feel better now. A cool option of this smart phone is the free Ovi Maps Navigation, which is great if you’re a traveler. This smart phone shouldn’t be directly compared to the top smart phones on the market, because it’s not in the same league. The Nokia nestles halfway between a basic cell phone and the best smart phones on the market. It’s less expensive — so if you’re wondering which smart phone to buy, you might like the Nokia.

The Windows Phone 7 from Microsoft is the rebranding of Windows Mobile — and it’s all brand new. At this time, it’s not even on the market yet — but keep your eyes and ears posted for options and special features of this smart phone.

Here’s what Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, says: “I’m proud to introduce Windows Phone 7 Series, the next generation of Windows Phones. In a crowded market filled with phones that look the same and do the same things, I challenged the team to deliver a different kind of mobile experience. Windows Phone 7 Series marks a turning point toward phones that truly reflect the speed of people’s lives and their need to connect to other people and all kinds of seamless experiences.”

  1. Personally, I prefer Blackberry’s RIM operating system because it simply gets to the point without having “fancy” stuff that only take up precious memory space. An external keyboard is also vital.

  2. Cell phone replacement more quickly, Each brand has its own characteristics. May be some mobile phones have strong entertainment features. And others have better performance on business. Well, that will be the best if we possess all these perfect phones.
