Here’s a “monster mash” of teen girl Halloween costume ideas, both homemade and store bought. Take a look at the Amazon links; you’ll find most of the Halloween costume ideas and accessories are already in your closet (or the back of your mom’s dresser, grandma’s attic, dad’s garage or grandfather’s cellar).
Starting with a grave idea: the Zombie School Girl Halloween Costume is so creepy that I didn’t want to put the picture here. She’s scary, girl! But that’s one of the most popular teen girl costumes for Halloween – and that particular costume got lots of positive reviews. You don’t need to buy the actual costume to dress up like a Teen Zombie Girl on Halloween. Look at the picture; everything you need is probably in your closet.

“A grandmother pretends she doesn’t know who you are on Halloween,” said bestselling author Erma Bombeck. You get to decide: do you want your grandma to see your face and know your story? Or, do you want to hide your identity behind a mask, full-body costume, and even a different voice?
The best part of searching for teen Halloween costume ideas is that you get to be who you’re not! Or a night, if you’re going trick or treating or to a Halloween party…
It’s been said that “All Hallows’ Eve” (now known as Halloween night) is when the veil between the worlds becomes thinner. Whether or not you believe in the spiritual world, it knows you exist…and it may be closer than you think.
But enough with the seriousness and creepiness! On to the lighter, brighter Halloween costume ideas for teenage girls…
Teen Girl Halloween Costume Ideas
These teen costume ideas aren’t your traditional witches, princesses, or ghosts. Even if you don’t find the exact right costume idea in this list, be open to different, creative, unique ideas.
The best Halloween costumes combine two things that don’t normally go together, which surprise people (for example, see “Spice Girl”, which is the third costume idea below). Another excellent type of Halloween costume is a play on words or a pun (such as a a real live dog wearing a hot dog costume).
1. Lightning Victim – an easy teen Halloween costume for girls or guys
The Lightning Victim costume is similar to the Zombie teen girl Halloween costume. You can wear anything you’d like to be a Lightning Victim: pajamas, a school uniform, a prom dress, a cheerleader’s outfit, your McDonald’s work outfit, etc.
The idea is the same, no matter what outfit you wear. Take that outfit – or old clothes, cut out some holes, then carefully burn the edges. Tease your hair so it sticks straight up and out and messy, smudge your face and any exposed skin with black make-up. You’ve been struck by lightening; remember to stagger, slur, and forget things.
2. Mad Hatter Halloween Costume for Teens
The Teen/Tween Mad Hatter Halloween Costume on Amazon includes a tailcoat jacket with attached faux vest, high-waisted skirt with attached pettiskirt, glovelettes, spat shoe covers, bow tie, and hat. The teacup and shoes aren’t included.
If you’re into thrift stores, this would be an easy homemade Halloween costume to make. You don’t need to search for the identical clothes of this Mad Hatter costume. Get a funky skirt, vest, scarf and little hat. Ask people to guess who you are…maybe they’ll come up with a super fun, creative idea!

3. “Spice Girl” (but not type of spice you think)
If you’re the teen girl of a parents who cook, this would be an easy Halloween costume to make at home. Wear a cinnamon-colored body suit and attach spice labels all over your body. Turmeric, cinnamon, pepper, steak seasoning, salt, Indian spices, etc – if your family likes to eat, they have at least a spice or two.
4. Roman Teen Goddess Halloween Costume
I wondered if the Roman Empress Costume is too adult to be on a list of Halloween costume ideas for teen girls. But, you probably learned about the Roman Empire or Greek Mythology in school, and this Amazon costume isn’t too revealing. It includes a two tone pull over Roman/Greek Style dress with black and gold ribbon at the waist and the bottom of the dress. This costume also includes the black and gold armbands and pins to attach the dress at your shoulders.
Do you think you could make this Halloween costume at home? I bet you could!
5. Wind-up doll
Another easy homemade costume idea for teens who have “girl clothes” at home (and who like dressing up like dolls on Halloween). Dress like a doll or princess. You could wear a cute girls’ dress, Mary Jane shoes, white kid gloves, pigtails, rosy cheeks and fake eyelashes.
Make a key out of a piece of cardboard, and paint it with silver paint. Attach it to your back, so it sticks out of the back of your dress. You’re a wind-up doll – and I bet this isn’t one of the usual teen girl Halloween costumes you’ll find others wearing. Can you combine this wind-up doll with something creative, like a wind-up dog?
6. Eve – an easy homemade Halloween costume for teen girls
This a costume idea from a reader who commented on15 Plus Size Halloween Costumes and Ideas for Women:
“Last year I was Eve of the “Adam and Eve” in the Bible. I went to Michael’s and bought a ton of fake green leaves and a plastic apple. I cut all the leaves from the fake branches and hand-stitched them onto a strapless bra and a pair of seamless panties. It only took about two hours to make.”
7. Car Hop Waitress
You didn’t get to experience the 1950s, but it’s a fabulous decade for Halloween costume ideas! The Car Hop Girl Halloween Costume is a throwback to the days of malt stops and milkshakes.
After school the teenagers went to a soda shop or diner, like Arnold’s in Happy Days. They hung out like teens do today – but without malls, computers, stereos, video games, cell phones or texting.
A teen girl Halloween costume from the fifties would be easy to make from stuff you find at vintage or consignment stores. Instead a store bought costume from Amazon, go thrifting. Ask your mom or best friend to come with you; go for a Halloween shopping and lunch extravaganza :-)
