Meditation helps you become more aware of your body

Deepak Chopra says you can lose weight through meditation because it leads to self-regulation. You need to expand your awareness and discover what’s really going on their body. Meditation helps you realize whether you’re physically or emotionally hungry. If you put food in your body to satisfy emotional hunger, then you’ll gain weight.

Meditation for weight loss involves feeling grateful for all you have, asking yourself, “Who am I?”, “What do I want?”, “What makes me happy?” You don’t need to have all the answers – just become more aware of yourself as a human being. This will help you connect to yourself, which will help you stay motivated to lose weight. Yoga helps me connect to my body, which helps me eat less and keep the pounds off.

It took me years to lose 25 pounds because I’m an emotional eater. When I get scared, sad, anxious, or depressed, all I want to do is eat! If you’re like me, then the only way to put these or any weight loss motivation tips to use is to deal with your issues.

Do you eat when you’re angry, sad, depressed, or stressed? Get to the core reason of why you always turn to food when the stress, anxiety, or depression. New research shows that improving your mood and dealing with depression can help you achieve your weight loss goals. And, meditation can improve your mood – which is why it’s effective to learn how to meditate to lose weight.

Meditation involves being compassionate and gentle to yourself

I love yoga – not just because my yoga DVDs helped me lose weight – because I feel more kind and loving to my body.

The better I feel about my body, the more likely I am to take care of myself. Part of taking care of myself is allowing myself to indulge in things I love. For instance, I love the “80/20 rule” because it gives me the freedom to enjoy delicious indulgences, and motivates me to stick to my weight loss goals. Most people can let themselves indulge in treats 20% of the time without gaining weight. A dietitian I recently interviewed said that if healthy people choose nutritious foods and healthy physical activity 80% of the time, they can indulge in treats 20% of the time.

When you’re focused on happiness and fulfillment, you’re less likely to lean on food for comfort or satisfaction.

Yoga can help you lose weight by encouraging you to pay attention to how your body responds to different types of food. For instance, I don’t eat a lot of meat because it takes my body forever to digest it.

“We nutritionists believe the most effective diet is the diet that works for you,” says nutritionist Amy Hendel, author of Fat Families, Thin Families: How to Save Your Family From the Obesity Trap. “You’ll never find an eating plan that is right for everyone because people differ with regards to their time demands, meaning how much or how little time they can give to a program. People also differ on financial means, so for some, even if a prepared diet plan that delivers food wouldn’t be a perfect fit because it’s beyond their wallet.”

Meditation for Weight LossIt wasn’t until I discovered Aim True Yoga with Kathryn Budig that I fell in love with yoga. Now, I can’t wait to do my yoga DVD because it fills my body with strength, flexibility, oxygen, energy, and vitality. I’m more into weight loss yoga DVDs than meditation yoga, but either route can be extremely effective if you want to lose weight.

All the yoga DVDs I do are about physical practice, flexibility, and strength. Meditation for weight loss isn’t a big part of my yoga DVDs but, all my DVDs encourage self-awareness and insight.

    I don’t know of any yoga DVDs for weight loss that also incorporate mediation, probably because my focus for yoga is on losing weight. My “mediation” time is prayer with God, not yoga-oriented. For me yoga is physical exercise (though I know it keeps me mindful and centered, but not in a spiritual sense).

    I don’t think weight loss is as simple as “eat less, exercise more” — not for everyone, anyway. Some people really need to establish a stronger mind/body connection, which is what meditating to lose weight is all about.

  3. Here are the best tips for meditating for weight loss that I’ve found, it’s a great summary:

    Quiet Room

    Meditation is best practiced in a quiet room where you can concentrate undisturbed. It is possible to meditate anywhere you find yourself, for example on a plane, bus, or train. But part of the practice involves focusing the mind, so noise and outside distractions may take away from this.

    Comfortable Position

    To meditate, you do not have to sit on the floor with your legs crossed. The most important thing is to be comfortable. A chair, sofa, or even your bed is find. Bear in mind, if you lie down in your bed, you may fall asleep, so you may want to at least sit up.

    Relax your body

    A common practice that you can use to relax your body is to tense up a body part, hold it for 5 to 10 seconds, and then let it relax. You can start with your feet, and work your way up to your face.

    You may be tempted to skip this part, but don’t. This is because many of us walk around all day with part of our body unknowingly tense. By purposely tensing up, you become more conscious of what it feels like to be relaxed and free of tension.

    Breathe Deeply

    To say breathing is an important aspect of meditation would itself be an understatement. This is because for the most part, many people take short shallow breaths, which in and of itself, leads to stress. By practicing deep breathing you can bring about almost instantaneous relief and relaxation. Your breathing should come from your stomach, not your chest. If you are physically able, breathe just through your nose. Make sure to slightly exaggerate your breathing process with your exhaling being the most protruded. Breathing in this manner expels more carbon dioxide, allowing you to breathe in more air.

    Focus your thoughts

    Every emotion you experience starts from your thoughts, which means that happiness really is a state of mind. Therefore, you want to focus your mind on something pleasant. For instance a white sandy beach, or a lush green meadow, anything that conjures up feelings of relaxation.

  4. I would like to say that people can control their weight by following general health care tips and recommendations. By doing sport or just general exersises you and having healthy eating patients can easily avoid various plastic surgery. Eat less and move more it is a common tip for people suffering from excess weight.

  6. I love the idea of incorporating meditation into your weight loss routine. It’s so important to learn to listen to what your body is telling you and it sure can give you the strength to push through when the going gets tough.

    All calories aren’t created equal. That is, a chocolate calorie isn’t nearly as good as a whole grain calorie or a bean calorie. So, I don’t buy the Twinkie diet as a way to lose weight.

    But, a Twinkie diet may be a weight loss motivation tip, depending on how much you love Twinkies! If you’re allowed to eat all the Twinkies you want, you may be motivated NOT to eat Twinkies and thus lose weight.

    I love the “meditate to lose weight” idea because it puts you in touch with your body. The more connected you are with your body, the more you’ll eat to satisfy physical hunger (not mindless or emotional eating). And, the more motivated you’ll be to achieve your weight loss goals!

  8. meditate to lose weight?

    I think that counting calories is VERY important, but don’t forget its also the quality of the food too. I was watching a show last night that said there was something called a “TWINKIE DIET!” I kid you not. The point the person on this “diet” was making was to show its not the quality but number of calories…but I still think that can be a big mistake.

    You also want to be a HEALTHY person…not just a thin one. Thin people can also have heart problems, and other body problems that can be averted w/ healthy eating and exercise. I think dieting is here to stay, but for goodness sakes people, be smart about it.

    I also believe you don’t have to be a vegetarian about it, you CAN eat meat…you can be healthy with or without meat…just probably wanna stay away from deep fried bacon grease bits…you know what I’m saying.
