However, just wishing for a change is usually not enough. You need tools to achieve your New Year’s Resolutions – so your goals don’t end up in frustration or a sense of hopelessness. 1. Learn how successful people accomplish their goals. Many will tell you that goals have to be in a reachable format that can be accomplished one step at a time. For example, if you don’t exercise regularly don’t expect that you can suddenly implement a strong one hour program on a daily basis.

2. Be honest with yourself about what you can realistically accomplish. It’s better to begin small and build. For example, ask yourself, Can I exercise at least 5 minutes twice a day? Do I know exercises that help me to feel better? If not, where can I find out more information? To achieve your New Year’s resolutions, be realistic.

3. Practice energy self-care so you have enough strength to motivate yourself. The Cross Crawl, touching the right hand to the left knee and then the left hand to the right knee while walking or running for 3- 5 minutes, is one of the quickest ways to charge your engines. To achieve your New Year’s resolutions, take care of yourself.

4. Contract with someone to check  with and report your progress. Classes with others or working with a mentor or friend can help you to keep up momentum. To achieve your New Year’s resolutions, have a back-up plan for getting through a difficult day.

5. Affirm your goals. Say, “Even though I have difficulty with______, I deeply and profoundly accept who I am and am doing my best to help myself” while gently rubbing or touching the tender spot on the left side of the upper mid-chest. Accept that accomplishing your resolution takes work and repeated daily effort. Keep a picture of what you DON’T want in front of you as well as a picture of what you DO want.  To achieve your New Year’s resolutions, ask yourself which motivates you more.
