How do you survive poverty, disease, heartbreak, and rape? As The Bounce Back Babe, I’m all about resilience, survival, adaptation to change, and flowing with what life brings.

I love change, and I want to help people cope with big and little life changes. I write tips-based articles for my blogs to help readers adapt to pretty much anything.

As a freelance writer, I’ve written for a wide range of publications, including Reader’s Digest, Woman’s Day, MSN Health, Natural Health, Spirituality & Health, and sometimes More.

But, my heart is in my “Quips and Tips” blogs, which I work on full-time. I’m also a full-time student at UBC in Vancouver (I’m getting my Master’s of Social Work).

Below is more about me and my blogs. If you’d rather read about what I survived, go to The Bounce Back Babe.

If you want to write an article about how you survived something big or little, read Share Your Story. I welcome guest writers!

You probably didn’t know…

I lived in Kenya, East Africa for three years. I taught Language Arts and Journalism at Rosslyn Academy – an American school in Nairobi.

My degrees are in Education and Psychology from the University of Alberta.

As a freelance writer, I’ve written for a wide range of publications, including Reader’s Digest, Woman’s Day, MSN Health, Natural Health, Spirituality & Health, and sometimes More. I also wrote monthly articles for BC Women’s Hospital in Vancouver.

I earn a living from my “Quips and Tips” blogs and ebooks.

I’m a full-time grad student at the University of British Columbia (UBC), in Vancouver. I’m working towards my MSW (Master’s of Social Work) – I want to get a job in a hospital or clinic, counseling patients who have been diagnosed with chronic illness.

My husband and I can’t have kids because of azoospermia, and chose not to get fertility treatments (other than IUI, which is a simple little procedure).

Enough about me! More about my blogs…

My “Quips and Tips” Blogs

There, I weave finances with relationships — and all articles contain practical money and love tips for couples. My most popular article on that site is about dealing with a toxic ex-wife.

Quips and Tips for Couples Coping With Infertility – because infertility is a drag, but it doesn’t have to make us bitter, angry, or depressed. My husband and I are riding the infertility roller coaster, but it hasn’t destroyed our dreams or crushed our spirits. On that site, I write articles about getting pregnant, dealing with childlessness, and even improving sperm count.

Quips and Tips From the Working World is where you’ll find job profiles and interviews with people at work, such as private investigators, casting directors, university professors, and B & B owners.
Quips and Tips for Giving Gifts was created to help people buy the right gift for the right occasion.

My “Quips and Tips” eBooks

The “quips and tips” in my ebooks are not the same as the “quips and tips” on my blogs! All my ebooks include information and advice from a wide variety of sources.

My ebooks aren’t just my tips — they’re me tapping into the brains of smart, experienced, educated, helpful people, and sharing what I learned.

75 Ways to Let Go of Someone You Love - to help people let go of the past and move on with their lives. This ebook is about more than gifts, though — it’s about saying “I love you” and building a more meaningful relationship in small, incredibly important ways every day.

Letting Go of an Animal You Love - for people who are struggling to cope with pet loss. I interviewed veterinarians, grief experts, and pet owners who loved and lost their animals. This ebook contains 75 tips for healing after pet loss.

75 Ways to Make (More) Money Blogging - to help writers and bloggers make money doing what they love!

Let’s face it; adventurous writers can’t do it all alone. So hop on — the “Quips and Tips” train is gaining steam! I need writers to write for my websites, and I’m willing to pay bucks. Not big bucks because I’m just a small writer with a small business…but bucks nevertheless!

This paid blogging job involves writing articles for one (or all) of my four “Quips and Tips” blogs. Topics vary widely, from planning parties to getting pregnant to writing character descriptions to planting square foot gardens.

I pay per blog post in US dollars, via PayPal, on the second or third day of every month. You’re free to write for all four blogs, or just one or two. Your one or two line bio will appear at the end of every article you write, with links back to your blog, website, book, Twitter, Facebook, or wherever you’d like.

As the conductor of this choo choo, I do have a few guidelines…

Want to Write “Quips and Tips” Articles?

Benefits:

Online exposure

Web writing experience

Links to your website or blog

Money! I pay per blog post, via PayPal

Work as much or as little you want – this is an ongoing gig

If you’re hesitant to write online or start your own blog, this is a great way to learn. It’s also a good source of writing experience!

Your Qualifications:

Ability to write grammatically correct, helpful, reader-friendly articles

WordPress experience (you’ll upload your post to WordPress)

Some familiarity with Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Ability to stick with the “Quips and Tips” guidelines

“Quips and Tips” Blogger Guidelines

Every Quips and Tips article features:

At least 4 tips for doing something, accomplishing a goal, or solving a problem.

A related book (or sometimes a product) on Amazon, for readers to get more information. (This, I will provide after you write and upload the post. I’m happy to feature your suggested book or product – especially if you wrote the book! – but it needs to be directly related to the topic and uploaded from Amazon by me).

A related quip or quotation.

All articles are 400-800 words long.

Types of “Quips and Tips” Blogs and Articles

Each blog has its own niche…

Quips and Tips for Successful Writers is all about writing, editing, getting published — and blogging! Here, I combine quips from famous published writers with practical writing tips. I’ve written about everything from how to grab your reader by the throat to reasons book manuscripts are rejected. I welcome any tips-related topic about writing.

Quips and Tips for Achieving Your Goals covers everything from overcoming career obstacles to saving money with grocery store coupons to beating traffic tickets. Articles range from 5 Fun Workout Routines and Exercises for Love Handles to 10 First Date Conversation Starters. This site helps readers achieve their personal, professional, and financial goals.

Quips and Tips for Money and Love blends two of my favorite topics: love and money. On that site, I weave finances with relationships — all articles contain practical money and love tips for couples. Popular articles include Financial Infidelity – 5 Steps to Fixing the #1 Relationship Wrecker and 10 Reasons Relationships Fail.

And finally, I started Quips and Tips for Couples Coping With Infertility because my husband and I are riding the infertility roller coaster. Infertility is a drag, but it certainly doesn’t have to destroy our dreams or crush our spirits! Articles on that site range from 5 Foods That Increase Sperm Count, Production, and Motility to 8 Natural Ways to Regulate Your Period.

Note that not all articles or titles need to contain the word “tips”!

Articles must be specific, relevant, and contain tips that haven’t been published a gazillion times. Here’s an example of what I don’t want: “Two tips for improving your writing skills are 1) read voraciously; and 2) write every day.” Though true, those tips are too general and overdone. Instead, write an article about improving your writing skills when you’re coping with a chronic illness or have lost the use of your right arm. Be specific.

Another example of a general, overdone topic: “Two tips for losing weight are 1) eat more fruit and veggies; and 2) exercise every day.” No more!!! Instead, write an article about losing weight for diabetics, or losing weight for 99 year olds.

Also — I’ve been hiring bloggers for Quips and Tips From the Working World since December, and it’s been a fabulous ride! That blogging job requires less writing and more editing, and is fascinating. Read Want a Blogging Job? Quips and Tips is Hiring Bloggers for info.

I’m hiring bloggers for my Working World blog – it’s easy, interesting “Quips and Tips” job that will improve your web writing and editing skills, increase your online exposure, and earn you a bit ‘o money…

I’m looking for bloggers to contribute to Quips and Tips From the Working World. This blogging job doesn’t require strong writing or SEO skills — it’s involves editing and formatting. Basically, I need bloggers to send interviews to sources and format the interviews into a well-written blog post.

Even though this isn’t a writing job, it will improve your writing skills! Editing another person’s writing – especially if they aren’t natural writers – is a fantastic way to become a better writer.

Here’s the scoop…

Work as much or as little you want – this is an ongoing gig

Learning more about different jobs and careers — these are very interesting articles to edit!

Qualifications:

Ability to post to WordPress

Editing experience

Some familiarity with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – the posts don’t really require optimization, but it’s good if you know what SEO is

“Quips and Tips” Blogger Job Description

Step One: Email my standard “Quips and Tips From the Working World” interview to whoever you’d like to profile. I’ll send you my pre-formatted interview questions; they’re ready to go and need no editing.

Almost all occupations and jobs are welcome, even if they’ve already been profiled on Quips and Tips. Since different employees have different experiences, duplicate occupations are fine. The one exception right now is writers and writing jobs, as I’ve already posted several profiles of freelancers, copywriters, novelists, and editors.

Step Two: Format the e-interview the same way as my Private Investigator Job Description – Private I Career Tips.

Formatting requirements:

Like the title, the first sentence should contain the words “job description”, “career tips”, and two versions of the occupation (eg, private investigator and PI). I’ll provide more keyword combinations.

The next 2-3 sentences offer an interesting quotation from the source (a quip!), as well as his or her name, job title, and organization.

The next paragraph should lead into the job description itself. Writing transitions like this is a great way to improve your writing skills!

The next few paragraphs consist of the source’s information, formatted into grammatically correct sentences and quotations. 400-800 words.

The article ends with a 2-3 sentence bio from the source, in italics.

The next sentence, in bold, asks readers to comment.

Your byline comes at the end of the article, in italics. Share 2-3 sentences about yourself, including your name, occupation, and blog or website link.

I have a standard “Quips and Tips” article format for you to use — including the bolded subtitles. You need only fill in the blanks!

What about the graphics?

The logo in the top right part of the article is a jpg or gif that your source provides, which you insert. It can be a company logo or a picture of him or her, approximately 150×150.

Step Three: Email me the article. After I give the article a once-over, you will email the source a “your profile is published” notice – this is also a prewritten email that I will give you. CC me on that email.

It should take you less than 45 minutes to edit and post the article. Once you get the hang of it, it will take less time.

Step Four: Check your PayPal account! I pay bloggers on the 2nd or 3rd day of every month, in US dollars.

I really enjoy interviewing sources and formating profiles for Quips and Tips From the Working World — it’s just that I don’t have enough time to do it.

If you’re interested in giving it a try, please comment below and I’ll email you the details within a week.

A roundup of Quips and Tips articles about Christmas shopping, holiday gift ideas, and finding the right present for the right person. Make your Christmas shopping easy by doing most of it online — and doing it early!

Healthy Christmas Gift Ideas – 8 Holiday Gifts for All Ages lists eight holiday gifts that revolve around health and fitness. I’m buying my husband the first thing on the list…not that there’s anything wrong with his teeth just the way they are!

Best Video Games for Christmas – Holiday Gifts for Gamers was my favorite article about Christmas to write — it was a blast! I can’t wait to try Donkey Kong Country Returns — and get Wii. That was on my Christmas wish list three years ago, believe it or not. Still hasn’t materialized.

SmartPhones for Christmas – The Best Holiday Gift Phones describes the latest phones. Some aren’t out yet, but will be for Christmas. It’s an awkard time to buy a smart phone because so many seem to be on the cusp of being released, or are new releases…may be better to wait until they’re tested and true?

And my last article about Christmas holiday gift ideas is Christmas Gift Ideas for Teachers — one of my most popular articles on Quips and Tips. Students have already started shopping for holiday gift ideas for their teachers. Keeners.

The best way to do your Christmas shopping is to start early. This year, I actually know what I’m getting my husband for Christmas AND his birthday (which is a couple weeks before Christmas). He also mentioned a leaf blower, which makes me want to write more articles about Christmas — ones that revolve around putting yourself in your loved one’s shoes! I’d never, ever want a leaf blower for Christmas. Would you?

Happy holiday shopping,

Laurie

My newest “Quips and Tips” ebook is always my favorite, which means 80 Ways to Say “I Love You” has top billing right now! I’ve written four “Quips and Tips” ebooks — two on love and relationships, and two on writing and blogging.

Like my “Quips and Tips” blogs, my ebooks are practical, helpful, tips-based guides to achieving goals and moving forward in life. 80 Ways to Say “I Love You” is designed to solve relationship problems before they start.

But sometimes relationship problems can’t be solved. Sometimes they lead to permanent rifts.

Rifts and breakups are difficult to recover from, even when they’re better for everyone involved. I wrote Letting Go of Someone You Love to help people bounce back; this ebook offers 75 tips from psychologists, life coaches, and other experts. It’s all about moving on after a heartbreak or loss. It’s so easy to get and stay trapped in the past…it’s definitely more difficult to find ways to say good-bye and move on, but boy is it worth it!

The past is no place to live.

Okay, enough about my Quips and Tips ebooks; let’s talk about my Quips and Tips blogs My newest site is called Quips and Tips From the Working World – and it satisfies my hunger to learn what every job in the world would be like! I love this blog. It contains job and career profiles from all professions. But it’s not just boring job profiles; it’s interviews with specific people in specific occupations. The interviews contain the best and worst parts of each job, as well as a few tips for aspiring employees.

If you’d like to be featured on Working World, I’d love to have you! Let me know in the comments section below if you’re interested, and I’ll email you the questions.

If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to share below.

All good things,

Every day, that article gets hundreds of hits – and it barely skims the surface of letting go of your past!

I wanted to offer more (and better) information about saying goodbye, moving on, and rebuilding life after loss, so I wrote this ebook.

In 75 Ways to Let Go of Someone You Love, I offer the best, most helpful tips and strategies from psychologists, life coaches, family therapists, and counselors. It’s about letting go of addictive relationships, affair breakups, estranged family members, and long-lost loves. This book is about healing, strength, and authenticity.

Letting go of someone you love isn’t something you do once – and poof! You’re free, healed, and happy! Rather, letting go is a journey peppered with steps forward and steps backward, good days and bad days, peaks and valleys.

How do I know? Because I’m an “old pro” at letting go. I grew up in foster homes, and was constantly saying hello and good-bye to new families, friends, schools, and cities. The downside of good foster homes is that it’s so hard to keep leaving and starting over. But I learned how to love, say good-bye, and open my heart to love again.

And I’ve loved and lost life partners – those heart-wrenching, gut-twisting breakups that slam you to the ground and rip you to pieces. Worse, though, was when my sister cut me out of her life. Five years ago, she told me she didn’t want to speak to me again and wouldn’t tell me why. That was the ultimate lesson in powerlessness and letting go.

All 15 chapters in this ebook start with a real person’s story of breaking up; some people have moved on while others are still trapped in the past. Maybe readers will recognize themselves in their stories. Even better, they’ll see how clinging to the past instead of letting go steals their happiness, confidence, self-respect, and hopes for the future.

To learn more – and to see the Table of Contents – go to 75 Ways to Let Go of Someone You Love.

As a full-time freelance writer and blogger in Vancouver, British Columbia, I’m living proof that dreams do come true if you don’t mind bleeding, sweating, and crying a little…or a lot! I always wanted to earn a living as a writer, and am grateful for my work and life.

I’ve contributed to magazines such as Reader’s Digest, Writer’s Digest, Health, Woman’s Day, Spirituality & Health, alive, MSN Health and sometimes More.

I also enjoy writing health articles, newsletters, profiles, etc for clients such as BC Women’s Hospital and Health Match BC. I teach a Make Money Blogging course through Simon Fraser University, at the Vancouver campus. And, as an experienced teacher, I’m available to teach writing workshops, sit on blogging panels, etc.

My degrees are in Psychology and Education, from the University of Alberta in Edmonton; I live on Bowen Island, British Columbia, Canada (a 20 minute ferry ride from Vancouver).

Quips and Tips is my main focus these days — I created and manage five blogs that weave quotations with practical life tips. Though I happily accept assignments from editors and other clients, my dream is to build my blog empire and write a series of Quips and Tips e-books. I want to inspire people to pursue their dreams and achieve their goals — and I love the feedback and questions I get from readers!

See Jane Soar is my sixth blog; there, I offer life lessons inspired by quotations from successful woman. It’s based on a book project I’m working on.

My recent “Quips and Tips” articles focus on re-evaluating goals, setting new intentions, and money money money! Creating financial abundance is one of my favorite topics, so I’m forging ahead with money and goals…because it’s more fun to be The Adventurous Writer when you’re actually making money writing.

What’s really been on my mind, however, is a 2,500 word article I just wrote for alive magazine. That’s the longest, most in-depth article I’ve ever written – and it was stressful! Why I want to write a 70,000 word book is beyond me…and yet I’m still aiming for a book contract from a reputable book publisher…

Also, I started a new “Quips and Tips” website, called Quips and Tips for Love Relationships. I found my Achieving Your Goals blog to be too love-heavy, so I’m transferring articles from Goals to Love…which means my Love blog is basically creating itself!

Okay, here’s a roundup of my most recent articles on Quips and Tips, See Jane Soar, and Psychology at Suite101…
